Marmoush’s Screamer Against Bournemouth Named EPL Goal of the Season

Just 14 minutes into the first half, 26-year-old forward Omar Marmoush gave Manchester City an early lead with a sensational strike. After receiving a pinpoint pass from Croatian midfielder Mateo Kovacic, Marmoush unleashed a powerful right-footed shot from long range, sending a dipping, looping effort into the top-left corner of the net.

The goal not only ended Marmoush’s six-game goal drought but also served as a moment of redemption following a missed penalty in the FA Cup final against Crystal Palace just three days earlier. It was his first penalty miss since joining City in January from Eintracht Frankfurt—a costly error that contributed to the club’s title hopes slipping away.

However, his outstanding performance against Bournemouth helped restore confidence among fans and reaffirmed his impact on the team. Marmoush’s stunning effort has since been named Manchester City’s Goal of the Season, making him the first player in club history to receive the honor. He also becomes only the second Egyptian to win the award, following Mohamed Salah’s iconic goal against City during the 2021/22 season.

According to Manchester City’s official website, Marmoush’s goal topped the public and expert panel vote, beating out a competitive shortlist that included all Guinness Goal of the Month winners from the season. His goal edged out entries from Carlos Baleba, David Brooks, Jens Cajuste, Jhon Duran, Alexander Isak, Nicolas Jackson, Kaoru Mitoma, Cole Palmer, and Harry Wilson.

With that goal, Marmoush capped off a promising start to his career at City, finishing the season with eight goals in 21 appearances across all competitions. Prior to his move, he completed the first half of the 2024–25 Bundesliga campaign as the second-highest scorer behind Harry Kane, netting 15 goals and breaking Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hinrunde scoring record previously held by Theofanis Gekas in the 2010–11 season.

Manchester City concluded their English Premier League campaign in third place with 71 points, trailing champions Liverpool by 13 points.
