Egyptian Sports Minister Taher Abouzeid canceled the extension of Ahly’s board and temporarily appointed a new board for the Cairo giants on Saturday.
State news agency MENA reported that the board will be headed by the club former goalkeeper and star Adel Heikal until a new board is elected.
The 80-year old Heikal is considered an icon of Egyptian football and Ahly.
“Sports Minister Taher Abouzeid referred Ahly’s former board to the public funds prosecution on charges of financial violations, according to the ministry’s legal affairs department,” MENA said.
The board headed by former Ahly defender Hamdy lodged complaints against Abouzeid to Egypt’s cabinet, FIFA and the International Olympic Committee.
The 64- year old Hamdy became the club’s 13th president in 2002.
