The Whites managed to hold off the Zambian champions and keep an away clean sheet ahead of the return leg next week.
On three occasions, Zamalek overcame Nkana in a two-legged knockout tie to advance to the final, winning two of them in 1984 and 2002, which marked the last time they had lifted the coveted trophy.
Zamalek’s most memorable game against Nkana was in 1984 in Cairo, where the hosts displayed an attractive brand of attacking football to humiliate their opponents, formerly known as the Nkana Red Devils, 5-1 in the second leg of the quarter final.
