Ahly, playing without a host of regular starters, scored at the death to avoid a stunning reverse at Cairo Stadium, beating lowly Nasr 2-1 to boost their morale ahead of Saturday’s African Confederation Cup final.
The Red Devils needed a diving header by youngster Ramadan Sobhi to secure a precious comeback win, their third straight Egyptian Premier League victory.
They fell behind to a goal from Nasr’s Mohamed Zizo on the stroke of halftime but veteran striker Emad Meteb, who came on as a second-half substitute, converted a penalty with five minutes remaining to level the score.
Ahly moved to the sixth place in the league table with 14 points, four behind leaders and arch-rivals Zamalek who played a game more. Nasr remain at the bottom with a solitary point from nine games.
