Al Ahly 1-0 Smouha FC | Egypt Cup 2016 | Match Review
Egyptian champions Ahly reached Egypt Cup semi final after beating Smouha 1-0 Monday in the quarter-finals of Egypt’s secondary domestic competition.
A late 1st-half goal by defender Saad Samir ensured Ahly’s supremacy against the Alexandria-based club, pushing the Reds a step closer towards the domestic double.
Ahly, who recently won their 38th league title, will face ENPPI in on Thursday.
Just a minute before the break, Samir met a corner from Ahmed Fathi with a powerful header that beat keeper Mehdi Soliman.
The Cairo giants were boosted by the return of their influential playmaker Abdallah El-Said who has recovered from a collarbone injury that kept him out since 9 June.
In the second half, Ahly’s Dutch coach Martin Jol used some of his new signings as striker Marwan Mohsen and midfielder Karim Nedved came in as late substitutes.
