Zamalek to Egypt’s Cup quarter finals after edging El-Hodoud | VIDEO
Ayman Hefni came off the bench to strike midway through the second half as Zamalek beat second-tier side Haras El-Hodoud 1-0 to reach Egypt Cup quarter finals on Monday.
The Whites who won the past four Cup titles have endured a poor first half as they could not create any chances on El-Hodoud’s goal, and were threatened on a couple of occasions.
Zamalek coach, Mohamed Helmi, piled more pressure in the second half on El-Hodoud as Ayman Hefni and Nigerian striker Stanley Ohawuchi were brought in to replace Ibrahim Salah and Bassem Morsi at 56′ and 62′ respectively.
Hefni capitalized in the 71st minute by meeting a rebound with a left-foot stunning volley from outside the area.
The Alexandrian side El-Hodoud led by former Zamalek coach Mohamed Salah – tried to push forward to grab the equalizer but could not find their way to Mahmoud “Gennesh” Abdel-Rehim’s nets.
Zamalek will face Talae El-Geish in the quarter finals.
The last tie of the round of 16 is set to be played on Wednesday between Ahly and Dakhleya.
