Watch 18+: Ireland Star Seamus Coleman Horrific Double Leg Break | VIDEO

Seamus Coleman faces at least six months out of action after it was confirmed that the Everton defender suffered a double leg break in the Republic of Ireland’s World Cup qualifier stalemate with Wales on Friday, according to the Liverpool Echo.

The horror tackle is understood to have broken both the tibia and fibula bones in the 28-year-old’s right leg after a rash and undisciplined tackle from the Welsh left-back Neil Taylor, who was subsequently red carded.

The Republic of Ireland’s captain was immediately stretchered off the field and with reports suggesting he is set to have an operation on Saturday and his absence will significantly hinder both his domestic and international sides.

A long and gruelling rehabilitation schedule is expected as the anticipated six month absence from football will play heavily on Ronald Koeman and Martin O’Neill as they look to secure European football and World Cup qualification respectively.

The ever reliable Coleman had missed only three of Everton’s Premier League fixtures so far this campaign, providing both defensive stability and attacking threat with four goals and three assists to his name.

Coleman will miss the rest of Everton’s campaign and a crucial Merseyside derby, and at least three vital international qualifiers which could prove to be more if the injury takes longer than expected to heal.

With a break as significant as Coleman’s the six month timescale is a clear indication of how much recovery the 28-year-old requires in order to get back to the levels which has seen him become a leader and a crucial part of both Everton and the Republic of Ireland’s back line.
