Egyptian League Live: Al Ahly v Wadi Degla | August 21st 2018
Match K.O. at 20:00 Cairo local time (GMT +2)
Venue: Salam Stadium, Cairo
Boosted by their recent African Champions league success, Egyptian champions Ahly will be searching for their second successive domestic league win when they host rivals Wadi Degla on Tuesday.
The game will be a special confrontation for Ahly’s new coach Patrice Carteron, as he managed Wadi Degla in 2006.
Ahly defeated Tunisia’s Esperance 1-0 in Rades on Friday, a much-needed victory that lifted them to the African Champions League quarterfinals with one match to spare in Group A.
Beating Degla will be Ahly’s second consecutive league victory after drawing 1-1 with Ismaily in the opening match, before beating Masry 2-0 in the second round.
The victory on Tuesday will also guide Ahly, who have four points, to the league summit, alongside rivals Zamalek, Smouha and Pyramids, who are all on seven points after three matches.
Degla, who have just one point from three matches, will be seeking a revival against Ahly after successive losses to Gouna and Petrojet.
Playmaker Walid Soliman and midfielder Naser Maher are ready to boost Ahly against Degla after recovering from injuries picked up against Esperance.
Carteron, who hailed his team’s solid defence against Esperance, said on Monday that Ahly will face a difficult test against his former team Wadi Degla.
“I respect Degla as a collective and organised team, especially as they deliver good performances in the league,” Carteron told Ahly’s official website.
“Ahly respect all the opponents. I want to continue our league campaign successfully. We want to achieve victories to please our fans.
“We are currently concentrating on the Egyptian league. Ahly players have the ability to deal with the different competitions. We are waiting a difficult test against one of the best teams, Wadi Degla,” he concluded.
