Mo Salah on target against Southampton
Liverpool had never before won their first seven games in all competitions in any season but they marked Jurgen Klopp’s 600th match as a manger by surpassing their 1961-62 season record when they won their first six.
A Wesley Hoedt own goal, Joel Matip’s header and Mohamed Salah’s poached rebound settled the game by halftime as the feelgood factor sweeping Anfield continued after the midweek Champions League triumph over Paris St Germain.
Klopp allayed any injury fears over Virgil Van Dijk after the defender was substituted less than an hour into the 3-0 win over Southampton.
“He had, before the PSG game, a bruise on his ribs, today he got another hit there again and it was uncomfortable, but it shouldn’t be too serious,” said Klopp.
“Hopefully he’ll be absolutely OK.”
