Egypt out! South Africa through to the quarterfinals
Bafana Bafana’s shock win over Egypt has seen some heads roll at the host nation’s football association, with the federation’s chief Hani Abou Rida calling it quits.
The Pharaohs run at the Afcon 2019 tournament came to an end when a last-gasp goal from reigning PSL Player of the Season Thembinkosi Lorch silenced an 80 000-strong home crowd, as Bafana shot through to the quarterfinals.

The fallout from the early exit saw Rida, who has been at the helm of the Egypt Football Association since 2016, call it quits, but not before sacking his entire technical team – including coach Javier Aguirre.

Speaking after the final whistle, the Mexican stated that he had not made a decision regarding his future, and had intended to speak with the Egypt Football Association.
“No decision until this moment. I spoke to the players in the dressing room, and tomorrow (Sunday) will speak with EFA officials,” Aguirre said after the match.
