Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish has been handed his debut call-up to the England national team.
Grealish is set to join the squad with the Football Association set to release a statement following the confirmation.
The 24-year-old was not initially called up when Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate announced his squad ahead of the UEFA Nations League fixtures against Iceland and Denmark.
Grealish could potentially in his first England shirt and it has taken five years to reach this point after he pledged his allegiance over the Republic of Ireland.
Southgate had previously told the media before calling up Grealish: “I’m grown up enough to understand that players are going to be disappointed if they’re not selected.
“But you can’t compare selecting Kalvin [Phillips] with selecting Jack – it’s a different position. Jack’s not a defensive pivot. In my view, he’s a winger or number 10.
“We have a fantastic competition for places in that area of the pitch. I just see others being ahead of Jack at the moment.”
