Kabongo: “I received an offer from Ittihad of Alexandria”
Kabongo Kasongo has expressed his disappointment for the heavy criticism he has received from Zamalek’s fans in the recent period, confirming that he has terminated his contract with the White Giants.
Kasongo was recently removed from Zamalek’s line-up for the 2020/21 season, and was replaced with Raja Casablanca loanee Hamid Ahaddad.
The Congo international was often used by Zamalek manager Jaime Pacheco in the past season as a substitute in the left-winger role, but the 26-year-old striker never proved himself worthy of staying with the team.
“I met Zamalek president and we found an agreement to terminate the contract with an official announcement pending. I received an offer from Ittihad of Alexandria but I told my agents that I want to stay near my family at the time being” Kasongo told Zamalek TV.
“I spent good times in Egypt but my two Champions League losses are the only thing I am sorry about. I will remain a Zamalek fan.”
“Everyone criticized my performance against Al Ahly but I have only touched the ball three times. I ran a lot and didn’t receive the ball. I am a striker who was playing out of position and I had to accept that.”
“Zamalek fans shouldn’t offend me while ignoring these circumstances I have been put in.”
Kasongo was loaned out to Saudi club Al Wehda and Morocco’s Wydad Athletic Club by Zamalek, before returning to the Whites again.
“I went to Saudi Arabia without my consent. I sustained an injury there and had to return to Congo. I also joined Wydad unwillingly and was treated in a poor way there but Mortada Mansour [former Zamalek president] brought me back.”
“We played a great game against Al Ahly and controlled the match but this is football. We could have lost the final even with full squad.”
