Ahly midfielder Hamdi Fathi out of service for two months
Egypt and Ahly midfielder Hamdi Fathi has been confirmed out of action for two months after fracturing his radius bone during the game against Kenya on Thursday in the 2021 African Cup of Nations qualifiers, Ahly’s doctor Ahmed Abou Abla announced on Friday.
Fathi, 27, left the pitch after sustaining the injury in the second half of the 1-1 draw game against Kenya in the 5th round of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers yesterday.
“The player’s arm will be placed in a cast for a month and he will undergo further medical tests and scans every week to ensure the progress of his recovery,” Ahly’s Doctor said in a statement.
“Hamdi needs two months to be ready for training before taking part in games. It all depends on his recovery progress.”
“We excluded any medical surgery for the player after undertaking several tests. His arm will only be placed in a cast,” Abou Abla added.
Fathi helped the Pharaohs secure passage to next year’s African Cup of Nations finals in Cameroon after settling for the draw away to Kenya in their qualifier on Thursday.
Egypt are now on top of Group G with nine points, on level with Comoros and five points clear of Kenya with one match remaining in the qualifiers.
Egypt end their qualifying campaign at home to Comoros on Monday.
