Trezeguet out for the rest of the season
Aston Villa’s Egyptian winger Mahmoud ‘Trezeguet’ has torn his cruciate knee ligament, an injury which will rule him out for the rest of the season (6 months at least).
The 26-year-old was taken off injured and in tears, in the 82nd minute as Villa lost 2-1 to Liverpool in English Premier League on Saturday. He briefly returned to the pitch after receiving treatment but could not carry on.
Egyptian reports said he faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
Trezeguet, who has made 22 appearances with Aston Villa in all competitions so far this season, scored his first league goal of the season when he netted twice in a 3-1 win over Fulham last week
Aston Villa Coach Dean Smith said earlier on Sunday that he was worried over Trezeguet’s serious-looking injury.
“He [Trezeguet] played well again today and played his part but unfortunately he’s gone off injured,” Smith was quoted as saying after the game.
“We’re a little bit worried to see what the extent of the injury is. He’s a little bit upset but we’ll see over time.”
Aston Villa are 10th in the league table with 44 points after 30 games.
