Al Ahly will be seeking to maintain their winning ways when they take on Gouna on Friday, chasing Egyptian Premier League leaders Zamalek at the top of the table.
[xyz-ihs snippet=”outbrain-in-article”]El Gouna are in 10th place with 24 points after playing 18 matches.
Al Ahly have been complaining of an overwhelming league schedule that leaves them playing a game every 72 hours. Coach Pitso Mosimane gave his players just a day off following their 2-1 hard-fought victory against Masry on Tuesday.
[xyz-ihs snippet=”In-article-Ad”]“This pile of fixtures for Ahly has nothing to do with football. In any tournament in the world, there must be equal opportunities. In the African Champions League, there are equal opportunities, in the FIFA Club World Cup the same thing, there are equal opportunities for all teams. How could that be achieved while we are the only team that plays a game every three days?†Abdel-Hafiz told Ahly’s website after the Masry game.
“On the professional, personal and experience levels, the pressure of the matches is unprecedented. I will not talk much. We will close the file of the Masry match and prepare for the next match against Gouna,†he added.
[xyz-ihs snippet=”In-article-Ad”]Mosimane would welcome the return of Moroccan defender Badr Benoun, who has been ruled out of a previous couple of games due to injury.
On the other side, Gouna are going through mixed fortunes. Following their precious 1-0 victory against Enppi in the league that propelled them to 9th place with 24 points, they suffered a shock exit from the Egyptian Cup Round of 16 after losing to Aswan 1-0.
