Morocco became the first African nation to advance to the semifinals of the World Cup on Saturday, extending its record-breaking run in Qatar with a 1-0 upset win over Portugal.
Youssef En-Nesyri leaped high to head home in the 42nd minute at Al Thumama Stadium, and thanks to some heroic goalkeeping from Yassine Bounou, Morocco held on to secure the historic result.
Morocco will face England or France in the semifinals on Wednesday.

The 37-year-old Ronaldo, one of Football’s greatest players, didn’t start for the second straight game but came on as a substitute in the 51st minute and missed a chance to equalize in stoppage time.
The five-time world player of the year is set to finish his career without capturing the World Cup or ever getting to the final. He headed right off the field after the final whistle and was crying as he walked down the tunnel.
