Egypt will beat South Africa -Abd-Rabou

Egypt ace Hosni Abd-Rabou believes his side are capable of downing South Africa away in Saturday’s crucial Nations Cup qualifier, although the Pharaohs are nowhere near their best.

Egypt are languishing at the bottom of Group G with one point and they have to beat leaders South Africa in order to revive their qualification hopes.

The Egyptian Premier League stoppage, which was prompted by security worries following the 25-January revolution, took its toll on Hassan Shehata’s men who are now struggling with fitness problems.

However, holding midfielder Abd-Rabou is convinced the African champions are likely to pull off good results in tough matches.

“We usually impress in critical situations,” he told FilGoal.com. “The Egyptian clubs’ African games also helped us (Egypt) redeem ourselves to some extent after the league pause.

Egypt played out a 1-1 draw with Sierra Leone before succumbing to a 1-0 loss to Niger in their previous qualifying meetings.

“Our results made the encounter (against South Africa) hard but we can win and overcome this obstacle,” Abd-Rabou said.

The 26-year-old also echoed coach Shehata’s sentiment that Egypt’s players became ‘high-spirited’ after the revolt that toppled ex-president Hosni Mubarak on February 11.

“The players became high-spirited after the revolution. We will do our best to make the Egyptian people happy after the dire circumstances the country witnessed,” Abd-Rabou concluded.
