The Cairo derby between Al Ahly and Zamalek will be held on 29 June as scheduled, the EFA announced following a meeting with Interior Minister Mansour El-Essawi. The chairmen of Ahly and Zamalek were also present.
The upcoming match had concerns over possible violence, especially after the recent riots and pitch invasions witnessed in Egyptian stadiums that forced the Interior Ministry to threaten to cancel the domestic championship or hold the matches behind closed doors.
Al Ahly could have the services of their top midfielder Mohamed Abou-Treika when they meet with Zamalek in next week’s derby.
Treika, who is Al Ahly’s top scorer with eight goals, he also scored 10 times against Zamalek in Cairo’s biggest football derby.
