Double Delight: Salah Nets Twice as Liverpool Triumphs Over 10-Man Everton

In Liverpool’s 2-0 win over 10-man Everton, Mohamed Salah made history by becoming the first Liverpool player in 32 years to score in Anfield’s opening four league matches. This achievement included both goals in the 243rd Merseyside derby.

The game took an interesting turn when Ashley Young, a veteran of cross-city clashes in Manchester, Milan, and Birmingham, was sent off for a second bookable offense just before halftime.

This further complicated Everton’s already challenging task of ending their long winless streak across Stanley Park, dating back to 1999, as their sole victory in 2021 came behind closed doors during the Covid era.

Salah’s first goal came in the 75th minute through a penalty after a handball by Michael Keane. He followed this up by converting a counter-attack in added time. This meant that the Everton fans present were still waiting to witness a ‘live’ victory at Anfield since 1999.

Notably, Salah’s penalty marked his 15th consecutive Premier League match with either a goal or an assist, and it was Liverpool’s 50th goal against Everton at Anfield in the Premier League. Furthermore, the second goal was significant as it marked Salah’s 200th career league goal.

His 104th home goal for Liverpool also propelled him past legends Kenny Dalglish and Steven Gerrard, securing his place in fifth position on the club’s all-time Anfield scorers list.
