The FA’s website stated the verdict against the beleaguered Port-Said club, who had been involved in the tragic death of over 77 supporters after last month’s league clash with Al Ahly.

The announcement included several penalties against the two clubs, but the most noticeable and anticipated sanction was the one against El Masry.

After concluding investigation on the issue, the FA announced suspending El Masry from all football competitions for two seasons, which means the club will be banned from the 2011-2012 Egypt Cup and the 2012-2013 domestic league.

The sanction also includes suspending Port-Said Stadium for hosting any sports events for three years.
The statement read that the verdict has been imposed according to articles 12 and 28 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code, which includes the expulsion of the respective club.

Al Ahly 4 matches behind closed doors:

In the same context, Al Ahly have been ordered to play their next four matches behind closed doors for lighting canisters and lifting offensive banners during the ill-fated game.

Al Ahly’s manager Manuel Jose and captain Hossam Ghaly were both handed four-match bans for ‘unsporting behavior’ toward match referee Fahim Omar.

Midfielder Ghaly was sent off right before his side conceded two late goals to lose 3-1 after picking up two cautions in quick succession for dissent.

It remains to be seen how both clubs will react to the sanctions as it is unlikely that Masri’s football-mad fans will accept having their team expelled from domestic competitions.
