Pyramids FC may suffer an early-season setback when they face Algeria’s CE Belouizdad in the second leg of the African Confederation Cup second preliminary round on Sunday.

The Egyptian outfit, who are making their maiden appearance in an African competition after finishing third in Egyptian Premier League last season, were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Belouizdad in the first leg.

They fell behind to a 65th-minute goal from playmaker Amir Sayoud before forward Mohamed Farouk rescued them with an equaliser nine minutes later.

Pyramids now have an uphill to climb as they need to record an away victory or draw with a bigger scoreline than 1-1 in front of a boisterous crowd at the 5 July Stadium in Algiers.

They can take heart from the impressive display they produced in their opening Egyptian Premier League game last week, crushing Enppi 4-0.

Pyramids also strengthened their squad by signing Ivorian international defender Wilfried Kanon and ex-Ahly and Zamalek attacking midfielder Ahmed Hamoudi last week.
