Zamalek 4-1 Teungueth | Match Highlights
Zamalek crushed Senegal’s Teungueth 4-1 but it turned out to be a consolation win as they were denied from Champions League quarter-final spot following a draw between Tunisia’s Esperance and MC Alger of Algeria on Saturday.
Two goals apiece from striker Marwan Hamdi, who opened his Zamalek account, and central defender Mahmoud El-Wensh gave Zamalek a comprehensive win while Papa Sakho scored Teungueth lone goal.
Esperance finished on top of Group D with 11 points, followed by MC Alger on 9 while Zamalek came third with 8. Debutants Teungueth finished at the bottom after collecting four points from their six games.
Two rounds ago, Zamalek faced an uphill climb to avoid a group-stage elimination following back-to-back defeats by Esperance. They needed to defeat MC Alger and bottom side Teungueth and hoped Esperance would beat the Algerian side in the final decisive round in order to advance courtesy of a better head-to-head record.
They outplayed MC Alger in a 2-0 away victory, their first ever in Algeria, but they weren’t handed any favors in Rades.
