Zamalek sent Assiouty Sport down to the second division and edged closer to an elusive Egyptian Premier League when they claimed an easy 2-0 victory in Cairo on Sunday.
Two first-half goals from strikers Bassem Morsi and Ahmed Ali were enough to condemn Assiouty to relegation after just one season in the top flight.
Morsi needed two minutes to open the scoring when he pounced on a loose ball after the keeper parried a low cross to slot home. It was his 11th goal this season as he moved three short of top scorer Hossam Paolo of Dakhleya.
Ali added the second on 28 minutes with a simple far-post header after being set up by a superb cross from in-form playmaker Ayman Hefni.
The second half was a dull affair, with Zamalek dominating possession and Assiouty defending in numbers.
